David Cook On Cover Of 2009 World Almanac?!

“One of these things is not like the others, One of these things just doesn’t belong, Can you tell which thing is not like the others By the time I finish my song?”

In yet another horrific depiction of what’s wrong with the world, a photo of DAVID COOK was placed on the cover of the 2009 World Almanac and Book Of Facts, next to images of Barack Obama, John McCain, and the Olympic flag. This was clearly only done because the editor of the World Almanac, Alan Joyce, wants to get in David’s pants. Video below.

   I’d probably be offended, if only I wasn’t laughing so hard right now. David Cook’s pants? Creepy smirk? I’ll treasure this post forever: the first public ridicule I’ve received in ten years as a reference book editor. And don’t think I haven’t been trying!

   At any rate, be embarrassed for America if you must, but I just call ‘em like I see ‘em. An average of 15% of TV-owning American households tuned in to watch each episode last season, and it was the third year in a row for the show to top the charts. It’s a pop-culture juggernaut, and I just have to grit my teeth (maybe that’s the cause of the “creepy smirk”?) and acknowledge that fact.

   Seriously, thanks for a good laugh. If you must know, I lobbied for three very different pictures on the cover (a rainbow, a unicorn, and Jason Castro), but I lost the vote.
